About Tim Madden


Tim Madden is a retired management executive and a previously published science-fiction novelist (Outbanker, TSR Books Div., 1990).  After visiting his wife’s family in Guatemala and encountering a 21st Century nation where shamanism and witchcraft still influenced daily life, he decided to switch genres and began writing mystery thrillers set in “The Land of Eternal Spring.”

Madden says, “To the Western mind, Guatemala can seem like a fantasy world.  Its village life mimics the middle-west in the 1940s, the political system resembles big city machines of the 1920s, community law enforcement is reminiscent of the Earps in Tombstone, and there’s a significant Indian problem in a country where almost half the population is indigenous.  Added to that, the socio-economic elites are often fragmented, sometimes corrupt, and leading in different directions.  This matrix of cultural counter-points can lead to violent conflict and certainly makes for exotic plots.”
